About this line

The first railway at Kirkby-in-Ashfield was the horse drawn Mansfield and Pinxton Railway. Established in 1819 it ran a distance of eight miles between Pinxton Wharf and Mansfield Portland Wharf. Locally the railway was known as ‘the tramway’.

The Summit

The Summit

The Summit part of Kirkby-in-Ashfield to the north of the Nags Head cross roads gets its name from the highest point of the 1819 Mansfield and Pinxton Railway.
