National Heritage Fund support ‘Steaming Back to Kirkby’ railway project

Mine2Minds Education have been awarded a grant for £9,018 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to support the heritage project – ‘Steaming Back to Kirkby: Memories of Kirkby-in-Ashfield Loco Shed and Sidings 1903 – 1970.’

Members of the ‘Steaming Back to Kirkby’ (SB2K) project steering group, along with volunteers, will oversee the twelve-month project. Activities include developing a comprehensive website on the history and memories of the railways at Kirkby-in-Ashfield, the delivery of a local history course, heritage walks and an extended weekend of commemorative events celebrating the history of Kirkby-in-Ashfield’s railways.

The Kirkby Heritage Centre will host project meetings on Tuesday mornings (10am to 12 Noon) from 11th January 2022 for the duration of the project.
